FORECAST DISCUSSION
Normal high: 85°F. Normal low: 65°F.
High pressure has settled over much of the Mid-Atlantic, making for a pleasant start to the week.
With the high overhead, and relatively low humidity, we're expecting a comfortable Monday night, with calm winds allowing temperatures to fall to the low to mid 60s.
Pleasant weather continues on Tuesday with partly to mostly sunny skies, low humidity, light northwest winds, and temperatures in the seasonable mid 80s.
Then as a frontal system approaches on Wednesday, winds will start to shift to a more southerly direction. This will increase both temperatures and humidity; highs will reach the mid to upper 80s with increasing clouds.
The frontal boundary will linger over the region for a few days. This will mean scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially Thursday afternoon and evening.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue into Friday, with the activity again reaching a peak in the afternoon and evening.
The front will start to depart on Saturday, although there could still be a few pop-up showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Then high pressure builds in again, making for a pleasant Sunday.
Temperatures during this period will be mainly seasonable, in the mid 80s.
In the long range, temperatures are expected to be near normal, and precipitation near normal for Aug 31 - Sep 6.
In the Tropics: An area of low pressure in the central Atlantic has a medium, 50 percent chance of development in the next two days. It is not a threat to the United States at this time.
A tropical wave off the west coast of Africa has a medium, 60 percent chance of development in the next seven days. It is not a threat to the United States at this time, but needs to be watched over the next week or so.
