It has been a hot and humid day on Delmarva, with partly to mostly sunny skies.
We remain in an upper northwesterly flow, with impulses of energy bringing clusters of thunderstorms.
For Tuesday evening, we're expecting scattered showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be strong to severe with damaging winds and hail the main threats. The highest threat for severe weather will be over Delaware, which is under a Level 2 "Slight" threat for severe weather. The rest of Delmarva is under a Level 1 threat. Showers and thunderstorms should taper off after midnight.
The heat and humidity will be fuel for showers and thunderstorms that will be triggered by impulses of energy from the northwest. While timing is never a certainty in this kind of a pattern, on average we're most likely to see showers and thunderstorms in the evening times, with most of the day being hot and humid with no rain. We don't want to rule out a stray shower or thunderstorm popping up during the day, so keep the eyes to the sky!
Delmarva is under a Level 2 "Slight" threat for severe weather Wednesday through Friday.
A more potent cold front is expected to approach in the northwest flow late Thursday into Friday. We have a better chance for showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon hours on Friday.
Then the ridge over the center of the nation will break down and the upcoming weekend will be much quieter, with partly to mostly sunny skies, and more comfortable afternoon highs.
Labor Day weekend is looking pleasant, with partly to mostly sunny skies and afternoon highs in the low 80s.
In the long range, temperatures are expected to be above normal, and precipitation below normal for Sep 8 - Sep 14.
In the Tropics: Tropical Storm "Edouard" is off the coast of southwest Louisiana. It is moving slowly and is expected to bring flooding rainfall to southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas before dissipating inland by Thursday.
There are no other areas of development interest at this time.
The Atlantic hurricane season ends on November 30.
