Bite Mark on 12-Year-Old Girl Still a Mystery

The bite marks on 12-year-old Jordan Prushinski needed 42 stitches.

OCEAN CITY, Md.- A 12-Year-Old girl is recovering after receiving 42 stitches for cuts on her leg from a bite mark. Jordan Prushinski says she was standing in knee deep water when something brushed up against her leg.

"A wave had just crashed and I thought I pulled up a horseshoe crab and it hit against my shin and I don't like sea creatures so I rushed out to find blood everywhere with wounds to the bottom of my left leg," Jordan said.

The Ocean City Beach Patrol is investigating what caused Prushinski's injuries. They are working with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and have ruled out an attack.

"This was not an attack, what ever it was, we haven't ruled out sea life, but we know for sure this was not an attack," Captain Butch Arbin said.

Jordan was treated at Atlantic General Hospital for 15 bite marks and 6 puncture wounds. Jordan's mom Melissa say doctors told her the wounds appear to be from a shark.

"Just looking at the bite pattern and the emergency room physician clearly said this was a shark bite. No other animal makes this type of bite," Melissa said.

The Prushinski family will not cut their vacation short because of this incident. Jordan is able to walk and is feeling better. She says when her wounds heel she will go back in the water.
