POCOMOKE CITY, Md.- The former Pocomoke City police chief is avoiding jail time after being convicted of criminal misconduct in office.
Kelvin Sewell was ordered to serve three years of supervised probation, according to the Office of the Maryland State Prosecutor.
Sewell was found guilty of protecting a Maryland correctional officer and fellow Mason in a 2014 hit-and-run crash. The former chief appealed his 2016 conviction and won. He was re-tried in May of this year and was found guilty again of misconduct in office, WBOC previously reported.
Sewell was also involved in a lawsuit against Pocomoke City citing racial discrimination. In March, city officials agreed to pay $650,000 to settle that matter.
