DOVER, Del. (WBOC/AP)- The Delaware Department of Justice's Family Division is getting a new director.
Delaware Attorney General Matt Denn announced Friday that Deputy Attorney General Abigail Rodgers Layton has been named the next director of the division. The division's duties include overseeing the adjudication of juveniles in Family Court, prosecuting child dependency and neglect cases, securing and enforcing child support orders and enforcing truancy laws.
A graduate of Gettysburg College and Villanova University School of Law, Layton is currently a prosecutor in the department's Medicaid Fraud Control unit. She has worked for the DOJ for 10 years, with some time in private practice as well.
She served as the commander of DOJ’s Child Predator Task Force for four years, and also as a criminal prosecutor in the department’s Misdemeanor Trial and Domestic Violence units. She is also the board president of Prevent Child Abuse Delaware.
Layton will take over as director Jan. 9. The division's current director, LaKresha Roberts, is becoming the next chief deputy attorney general, the second highest ranking position in the Delaware Department of Justice.
