HURLOCK, Md.- There is good news for parents who have been waiting to hear when a new North Dorchester High School will finally be built.  The Dorchester County Board of Education recently announced it has selected a construction manager for the project.

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company will handle construction management, receiving $1,725,572 for its work.  Construction is set to begin July of this year.  Eventual move-in is set for August of 2019.

The overall cost of the school is $49,658,000.  Of that total, $29,447,000 will be covered by the state, the remaining $21,211,000 falls to Dorchester County.

The new 116,000-square0foot school will be built behind the current NDHS.  The goals of the new school are to incorporate technology, be usable by the community, flexible, safe and secure, as well as sustainable and energy efficient.

The current school was completed in 1954.  The community has been calling for the new school for years, and parents say they are glad to see some significant movement on the long-awaited project.
