EASTON, Md.- Easton Police say one person was killed after a crash Wednesday night.
Easton Police say they responded to a two-vehicle accident on east bound Rt. 50 and W. Kennedy Street around 11:00 p.m.
Based on the initial investigation, investigators say a 2004 green Kia Sedona was traveling east bound on Rt. 50 in the right lane. They say a second vehicle, a 2000 black Honda Accord, was also traveling east bound Rt. 50 in the right lane.
Police say based on the statement from the driver of the Kia, the driver believes she was experiencing possible mechanical problems. Due to that mechanical problem, authorities say the Kia was traveling slowly with the hazard lights on.
It remains unclear at this time why the Honda rear-ended the Kia, police say.
Investigators say he driver of the Kia is identified as 72-year-old Pearline Elizabeth Henry, of Delmar, Maryland. The front passenger of the Kia is identified as 52-year-old Charlene Juanita Mumford, also of Delmar, Maryland.
Henry and Mumford were transported by Paramedic 96 to Easton Memorial Hospital. Police say they were released with minor injuries. The rear passenger of the Kia is identified as 73-year-old Charles Thomas Henry, of Delmar, Maryland. Police say Charles Henry was transported by Trooper 8 to University of Maryland Shock Trauma where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Honda was identified as 32-year-old Janell Rene Bennett, of Easton, Maryland. Bennett was transported by Paramedic 96 to Easton Memorial Hospital. Bennett was treated and released.
Police say a reconstruction of scene will be completed by Easton Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Unit. The following agencies assisted in the handling of the scene: State Highway Administration, Easton Volunteer Fire Department, and the Easton Police Department.
The portion of Rt. 50 at W. Kennedy Street remained closed to traffic for three and a half hours during the investigation. The Easton Police Department is asking the public for any witnesses to the accident.
