Smyrna Crash Causes Temporary US 13 Closure

A DelDOT traffic camera shows road crews redirecting traffic on US 13 around 6 a.m. after closing the northbound exit 119 ramp to DE 1 during a crash investigation.

SMYRNA, DE– A serious crash on a US 13 (Dupont Parkway) exit ramp caused detours and delays for drivers Thursday morning.

The multi-vehicle crash was reported around 4:40 a.m. at the northbound exit 119 ramp to DE 1 (Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway).

Delaware's Department of Transportation (DelDOT) quickly closed the ramp and redirected traffic in both directions on Dupont Parkway, warning drivers to expect delays and seek alternate routes through the area. The road was reopened around 8:15 a.m., according to DelDOT.

Citizens' Hose Company commanded the scene, responding alongside Clayton Fire Company, American Legion Ambulance Service Station 6, the Kent County Department of Public Safety and Delaware State Police Troop 4 Aviation.

Authorities have yet to confirm the number or extent of injuries resulting from the crash.
