SANDY POINT, Md. (AP/WBOC)- Police activity closed the eastbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge for more than an hour on Thursday morning.

Maryland Transportation Authority Police spokesman 1st Sgt. Jonathan Green said by telephone that the bridge was closed around 6:30 a.m. for police activity, but he did not elaborate. He says the situation was resolved around 7:45 a.m. and the span reopened. The westbound span remained open.

A hotline says eastbound delays begin more than two miles before the toll plaza. Eastbound traffic is using one lane on the westbound span.

The closure comes as many in the region prepare to head east to beaches for Memorial Day weekend.
