Police Prepared for Extra Race Weekend Traffic

DOVER, Del.- As fans arrive for the 2014 NASCAR Race Series at the Dover International Speedway, the Dover Police Department is ready.  Police say the event can bring up to 100,000 people to the capital city.

The Dover Police Department says it is working with DelDOT's Transportation Management Center and the Delaware State Police to monitor traffic. They are also warning drivers to take it slow, since pedestrian traffic will increase this weekend.

Police expect an increased volume of traffic to cause minor delays in the area of the Dover Downs main entrance, US Rt 13/Leipsic Road, and Route 1/Scarborough Road areas.

They say the busiest times on the road will be prior to each of the races starts and at the conclusion of each race.  Route 9, Route 1, Route 8, and Route 15 are suggested alternate routes to avoid traffic.
