SALISBURY, Md.- June marks the beginning of Pride Month, and local organization Salisbury Pflag held a ceremony Tuesday afternoon where dozens gathered to show their support and raise the progressive pride flag.
The event took place in front of the Salisbury Government Office Building where dozens gathered to show their love and support for the LGBTQ community.
Salisbury Pflag, which organized the event, focuses on education, support, and advocacy on behalf of all LGBTQ people. Mark DeLancey, the executive director of Salisbury Pflag, says he is excited to kick off Pride Month with the raising of the flag after having it canceled last year due to the pandemic.
"We're also going to raise the progressive flag, which incorporates the progressive pride flag...actually incorporates the trans community, and incorporates people of color," DeLancey said. "It will be the first time I believe on the Eastern Shore that we will actually be raising the progressive pride flag, showing us that we're here, we're proud and very happy to be part of the community."
DeLancey says Salisbury Pflag is hoping to bring a pride parade to the community next year.
