Seaford Man Gets 25 Years for Death of Infant Daughter

James R. Gallaway

GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP/WBOC)- A Seaford, Del. man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the death of his three-month-old daughter in 2010.

Jason R. Gallaway was sentenced last week after pleading guilty in May to murder by abuse. He entered the plea while awaiting a retrial.

Gallaway claimed his daughter Marissa fell off of his lap and accidentally hit her head, but authorities found that she had suffered several injuries, including skull fractures, broken bones and bruising on her head and face.

Gallaway testified that he was clumsy and often dropped the girl or bumped her into walls at his home on Hickory Lane.

He was convicted of murder in 2012 and was sentenced to life in prison, but a judge overturned the conviction, noting that Gallaway's attorney was given inadequate funds to hire a medical expert.
