STEVENSVILLE, Md. - A home in Stevensville sustained hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage from a fire that broke out shortly after noon on Sunday.
According to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal, a pizza delivery driver spotted the fire at 205 Maryland Road and called authorities.
The United Communities Volunteer Fire Department responded and it took crews about 45 minutes to put out the fire.
Investigators say the fire was caused by smoking materials that were discarded improperly on the back deck and that a smoke alarm in the home failed to activate.
The fire caused an estimated $300,000 in damage to the structure and another $120,000 in damage to its contents. There were no reported injuries.
The State Fire Marshal's Office says the homeowner is being assisted by family members.
