NEWARK, DE - CBS is reporting at least one person is dead and another was taken to the hospital after a vehicle hit multiple people near University of Delaware's campus.

According to CBS, the incident happened Tuesday afternoon, around 4:45 p.m. Road closures were put into effect in the area of East Main Street starting at South Chapel Street. Newark police later described the collision as a "serious crash involving pedestrians" near the area of East Main and Haines streets.

Witnesses told CBS News Philadelphia they saw a white U-Haul van speeding down Main Street when it hit two people. The witnesses reportedly said they also saw the driver being detained.
