PRIME HOOK, Del. - In one beach community, a "water quality advisory" has been lifted as of Wednesday afternoon. The advisory was originally issued by Delaware's Recreational Water Program for Prime Hook Beach on Tuesday, after bacterial results were higher than what's considered to be a safe level.
On Wednesday, samples were taken once again, and the levels seemed to have dropped, according to Environmental Scientist Michael Bott. He said these spikes should not be a surprise.
"It's expected when you have thousands of shorebirds," he said.
Bott said that these shorebirds leave bacteria behind in their fecal matter. He said that the increased rainfall has also been a factor in the spread of this bacteria.
