Millsboro, De.- One Delaware charity says it is seeing an increase in demand in Sussex County. Clothing Our Kids is a nonprofit that gets brand new clothing to kids in need. Bob Blouin says this year the demand has never been higher.
"This year it was unprecedented we had volunteers come in way before the school year not just to get the center ready, but to answer orders from homeless shelters, or social services," said Blouin.
Blouin says this can be attributed to changing dynamics in the county.
"We have a lot of people coming into the area but also have fallen out of jobs and out of favor with landlords and things like that so we ended up answering those orders and getting those orders in early."
Teachers in Sussex County can request clothing from Clothing Our Kids. Blouin says getting clothing to kids also helps teachers from reaching into their own wallets.
"I have teachers in my family who have absolutely no hesitation to take their own money out of their pocket to help their kids that they see need help. Whether it be school clothing or supplies," said Blouin.
Blouin says the organization, which has been around for 12 years, says they used to give students gently used clothing. He says now they are able to give kids brand new clothing and that this change has boosted confidence in kids and their desire to go back to school.
