EASTERN SHORE, Md. - Several parks and recreation projects across Maryland’s Eastern Shore are set to receive state funding after the Maryland Board of Public Works approved millions of dollars for projects across the state Wednesday.

On Aug. 18, the Board approved $4.6 million in grants from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for trails, playgrounds and land conservation projects in 11 counties Several of those projects are on the Eastern Shore, including new playgrounds, trails, athletic facilities, and a skatepark.

In Caroline County, funding through the state's Community Parks and Playgrounds program will go toward new playground equipment at Sharp Road Park in Denton and James T. Wright Park in Preston.

Dorchester County will also see a new park in Cambridge. The planned Leonards Lane Pocket Park will include a basketball court and walking trails, according to DNR.

In Talbot County, San Domingo Park in St. Michaels is slated to receive new trails, parking, and a pier.

Wicomico County has three projects included in the funding. Gordy Park in Delmar will receive new playground equipment and a pavilion, while the Mason Dixon Sports Complex in Delmar will receive new field lighting. Willards Town Park will also receive new bleachers and picnic tables.

In Worcester County, funding will go toward a new skatepark at Heron Park in Berlin.

Those Eastern Shore projects are among 13 statewide receiving a combined $3.18 million through the Community Parks and Playgrounds program, which provides funding to municipalities to create and improve local recreational facilities.
