FRUITLAND, MD -- Firefighters from the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company responded to a structure fire just before 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. According to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal, the fire caused roughly $150,000 in damages.
According to state officials, the fire began in the garage of a single-story home before spreading to other portions of the house. No occupants were harmed in the fire, and one firefighter was transferred to medical care for a minor, heat-related illness.
Officials said the fire took around 25 minutes to contain. According to Maryland State Fire Marshal's office, the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical branch circuit failure and is being deemed as an accident at this time.
