Kosovo is holding an early parliamentary election, its third in 18 months, aimed at resolving a political impasse. The main political parties failed to agree on a new president by a March deadline. The prolonged crisis has hurt Kosovo’s economy, already struggling with the global energy crisis. Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s party holds a clear majority, but electing a president requires broader consensus. The opposition accuses Kurti of trying to control all political institutions. Analysts don’t expect major changes in the election outcome. The political stalemate has delayed access to European Union funds.
