OCEAN CITY, Md.– Ocean City Beach Patrol announced reduced staffing for the rest of the season as some lifeguards return to school.
Officials say lifeguards will continue to patrol beaches from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily through Sept. 27.
Stands will be located approximately every ten blocks from South Division Street to 142nd Street, subject to lifeguard availability, for the week of Aug. 31 to Sept. 6. Beach Patrol leaders say stands will generally be within one half-block of their advertised location.
Beachgoers are urged to locate the nearest in-service lifeguard stand before swimming and to stay within view of lifeguards while in the water.
Several beaches across Delmarva will remain guarded through Labor Day, including the following:
- Dewey Beach: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
- Cape Henlopen State Park: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
- Delaware Seashore State Park: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
- Fenwick Island State Park: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
- Deauville Beach: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
- North Shores: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
- South Bethany: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays; 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekends
- Assateague State Park (Maryland): 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
- Assateague Island National Seashore Virginia District: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Labor Day
The lifeguarding season continues into September for the following beaches:
- Rehoboth Beach: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekends and Labor Day; limited lifeguards through Sept. 20
- Bethany Beach: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 1-4; 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekends through Sept. 27
- Savannah Beach and Johnnie Walker Beach in Lewes: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 1-4; weekends through Sept. 27
- Fenwick Island: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 1-7; weekends through Sept. 27 subject to lifeguard availability
