CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Get ready for the rumble of a major boat regatta in Dorchester County. The power boats return this weekend, bringing with them a wave of race fans and tourists.

And racers like Tom Thompson are diving into all the excitement.

"At this level, we've been doing it a long time and you know I've always said if I get scared I'll stop," Thompson said.

But Thompson and the dozens of racers expected this weekend are far from scared. On Friday, racers prepped their boats before jetting on speeds of up to 200 miles per hour.

And lots of prep is happening inside Cambridge restaurants too. The kitchen at Portside Seafood Restaurant was busy ready to welcome in racers and fans. Owner Marcia Christopher says the event brings big time business during the Spring season before the chaos of Summer arrives.

"We'll take any extra business this time of the year that we can get," Christopher said. "We have to order extra food naturally to have on hand. They do like the local seafood when they get here so we have to really boost that part of it up."

The Cambridge Powerboat Regatta takes place May 18 starting at 10a.m. More races also take place Sunday at Great Marsh Park in Cambridge.
