RIDGELY, Md. -- The Office of the State Fire Marshal said crews responded to North Caroline High School after a school employee found smoke in a bathroom.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. at the high school on River Road.
The State Fire Marshal said that a current high school student intentionally ignited combustible materials with an open flame inside of a men's restroom stall.
Officials said the small fire extinguished on its own before a school employee noticed the smoke. The fire alarm was present but didn't activate because there wasn't enough smoke.
According to the State Fire Marshal, a 15-year-old North Caroline student was referred to juvenile services for the incident.
