UPS Store in Dover Asks Travelers to Stay Out; Corporate Says Take it Down

This sign was posted on the front door of the UPS Store along Route 8 in Dover. It has since been taken down after a request from corporate.

DOVER, De. - The recent coronavirus outbreak is causing anxiety both nationally and here on Delmarva.

While the Delaware Division of Public Health announced another patient has been cleared of having the coronavirus Thursday, it did not stop one business in Dover from taking its own precautions.

A viewer alerted WBOC to a sign, posted outside the UPS Store in the Green Tree Shopping Center along Route 8. It's unclear how long the sign had been posted, but it has since been taken down.

WBOC caught up with Shanequica Royster of Smyrna as she was exiting the UPS Store. "I think it's weird to have it out here. If you do travel to China I think everyone should just take precautions and just handle yourself accordingly. So for a business to have it up I do think it's kind of weird."

But others said they supported the store posting such a message to potential customers.

"I don't know - I don't want to get sick, or die yet," explained Vaya Wissman of Milford.

WBOC reached out to the UPS Store's corporate office and asked them about the sign. In a statement, the company said:

"As soon as we became aware of the sign, we asked the owner to take it down and they complied. The sign is not representative of the UPS Store."

WBOC reached out to the owner of the UPS Store, but he declined to comment on the sign.
