Updated: Oxford FD Ladies Auxiliary President Struck And Killed by Car

OXFORD, Md. - The Talbot County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly car accident that killed a pedestrian Monday night.

It happened shortly before 6:15 p.m. in the area of Oxford Road and Bonfield Avenue. The Sheriff's Office said 71-year-old Edith Jane Beglin of Oxford was leaving her house and crossing the street when she was hit by a car. Talbot County EMS arrived but police said Beglin died at the scene.

The driver of the car was identified as 18-year-old Dante Marquis Kane of Brooklyn, Md. The Sheriff's Office said it is investigating the incident alongside the Oxford Police Department and Maryland State Police.

Kane was taken to the hospital for treatment, but authorities said no one else was injured in the crash.

The Maryland State Fireman's Association said in a statement Tuesday that Beglin was the president of the ladies auxiliary of the Oxford Fire Department. The MSTA said Beglin was on her way to an auxiliary meeting Monday night when the crash happened.

The Oxford Fire Company posted Tuesday on Facebook, thanking the community for its support as the fire department continues to support the community.

The fire company said late Tuesday they will be holding services for Beglin Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Marks Methodist Church. The Oxford Firehouse will hold a reception following the service.

Beglin's family suggests that instead of sending flowers, to donate in her memory to the Oxford Library or the Oxford Fire Company.
