BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- The Delaware Division of Public Health said Friday that Jimmy's Bridgeville Family Restaurant has been approved to reopen following a reinspection of the business.
The restaurant had been ordered closed Tuesday after the DPH noted "gross sanitary conditions" and roaches discovered following a routine inspection.
During their initial inspection on Tuesday, inspectors said they observed employees fail to wash their hands before putting on gloves and saw an employee mixing coleslaw with bare hands. The report also noted heavy mold and mildew debris inside an ice machine.
Inspectors also found several foods throughout the facility not kept at their proper hot or cold holding temperatures.
Other violations noted in the inspection included hoods and ducts had heavy buildup of grease, food debris and dust, as well as raw eggs over ready-to-eat foods in a walk-in refrigerator.
During a follow-up inspection conducted on Wednesday, inspectors said they observed "live and dead" roaches in the facility.
DPH ordered the restaurant closed until all "priority" violations were corrected and planned a re-inspection Friday at which time DPH gave the restaurant the green light to open.
WBOC reached out to the owner of Jimmy's Bridgeville, Mike Kostis, who said he reopened the restaurant at 2 p.m. Friday.
Kostis said he inherited a few problems after purchasing the restaurant in early fall but is "attacking them aggressively."
"We continue to improve the building and functions every day," Kostis said.
