SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - The Delaware Transit Corporation has kicked off a series of public meetings to discuss ways to improve DART bus service in Sussex County.

Two meetings were already held in Rehoboth Beach and Georgetown.

People who were at those meetings say one main concern is buses not running early enough or late enough for employees in the service industry.

President of Ocean Atlantic Companies Preston Schell said another concern is a lack of bus service in areas south of the Indian River Inlet Bridge, like Fenwick Island and Bethany.

"A big chunk of our county, particularly a chunk that's close to the beach and growing as fast as it is, has little to no bus service at this time," said Schell.

A spokeswoman for the Delaware Transit Corporation said, "Our goal is not to deny transit services or amenities to any areas of the state, but rather to provide service to areas identified as those that can successfully support transit with density and the needed infrastructure."

She adds the meetings will educate the public on what it takes to add bus service to certain areas.

Upcoming Community Conversations are scheduled for November 14 in Georgetown and Seaford. However, the hours and locations still need to be confirmed.
