DOVER, Del. (AP)- Delaware lawmakers are asking the state auditor's office to add reviews of charter schools to its workload, but the auditor says insufficient funding means the office can't even handle its legally required requests.

State auditor Kathy McGuiness said that she hired an auditor to review her own office, and she says the report found the office might not have enough funds to complete its state-required reviews.

McGuiness also said the report found the former auditor hadn't been doing the duties mandated by law, performing investigations that weren't required over those that were.

Former state auditor Tom Wagner says accusations that his office shrugged mandated tasks are news to him.

McGuiness asked for $1 million more for her office. It's unclear if she'll receive it.
