LEWES, Del.- Police on Monday arrested two Laurel women accused of robbing the Home Depot store in Lewes.
Troopers said the crime happened Wednesday afternoon, July 15, at the store located at 17832 Coastal Highway. According to police, 42-year-old Nakeisha Ammons loaded up a shopping cart up with merchandise walked out of the store through the Garden Center doors without paying. Troopers said a 49-year-old employee asked Ammons for her receipt as she went out of the store, but Ammons ignored her and walked to her vehicle in the parking lot. The store employee followed Ammons to her vehicle and told her she was not getting away with all of the stolen merchandise, police said.
Investigators said 29-year-old Breanna Verdon, who was waiting for Ammons in the parking lot with the trunk of the vehicle open, then assaulted the employee. Witnesses were able to obtain a good description for the vehicle and both suspects. Police said the employee sustained a small cut to her eye during the incident, but did not require medical treatment. Troopers obtained arrest warrants for Ammons and Verdon.
On Monday, July 20, Laurel police took Ammons and Verdon into custody at their home on the 500 block of Little Creek Drive in Laurel, and transported them to the Seaford Police Department where they were charged from the initial incident with the following:
- Second-degree robbery (felony)
- Second-degree conspiracy (felony)
- Shoplifting
Verdon was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and released on $7,000 unsecured bond.
Ammons was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and released on $7,500 unsecured bond.
