REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Authorities have recovered the body of a swimmer who went missing early Monday morning off the coast of Rehoboth Beach.
Rehoboth Beach police said that Timothy S. Toner, 43, of Lewes, Delaware, was reported missing by a friend just after 1:30 a.m. when she witnessed him enter the ocean in the area of Rehoboth Avenue and not return after being gone for approximately 20 minutes.
Multiple agencies responded to assist in the land, air, and water search, but all were unsuccessful in locating Toner.
Just after 11 a.m. Monday, Toner’s body was spotted in the surf along the beach in the Delaware Seashore State Park just south of Dewey Beach in the area of Tower Road. A forensic investigator from the Division of Forensic Science responded to the scene and the body was removed.
A death investigation is being conducted by the Rehoboth Beach Police Department with the assistance of the Division of Forensic Science and Delaware State Police.
At this time no foul play is suspected.
