Mardela Springs Man Uses Billboard to Advertise Need for New Kidney

By Kayla Tinsley

MARDELA SPRINGS, Md.- A retired Wicomico County sheriff's deputy in need of a new kidney has found a rather unique way to get the word out.

In December 2019, 79-year-old Robert Whitelock's life changed forever. That was when the Mardela Springs man was told that he needed a new kidney.

Alongside Route 50 in Mardela Springs, not far from the Vienna Bridge, is a huge sign that reads, "Please help, need a kidney." At the bottom of the sign is Whitelock's contact number along with his picture.

The sign has been up for more than a year and since then, Whitelock says more than 40 people have volunteered but he still has not found a match.

Now Whitelock and his wife, Stephanie, are hoping the sign can save his life.

If you would like to see if you could be a possible match to donate a kidney to Whitelock, please call 410-543-2990.
