SALISBURY, Md.- While the pandemic has cut many jobs across the country, one seems to be booming on Delmarva: real estate.
U.S. News and World Report ranked Salisbury, Maryland as the 90th best place to live and 26th best place to retire in its annual findings. Waterfront access, cost of living, and open space are three big reasons why some realtors say they're seeing the Crossroads of Delmarva grow.
"They've found in this area that it's a great place to live," says Brandon Brittingham. "It's affordable and then you couple that with interest rates are historically low. We are at 40 year lows most people are getting an interest rate at less than three percent."
Brittingham says the demand for housing is so high that his brokerage expects to grow by over 50 percent. His group, the Maryland and Delaware Group of Long and Foster, is actively recruiting and created a new training program to help handle the demand.
"A lot of people are out of work so we thought it was kind of a perfect time to kind of go out there and get the word out there," he explains. "That we can offer somebody, not just offer them a new career, [but] actually teach them and train them how to be really successful at doing it."
Brittingham's program includes scholarships. More information can be found here.
