TALBOT COUNTY, Md.- Talbot County Public Schools announced reopening plans for students Thursday night.
The Board of Education approved the proposed phased-in approach for the school year ahead taking COVID-19 precautions into consideration.
Students will now begin September 8. The first week will be virtual for all. That is just phase one of five.
In Phase One, All students will participate in class virtually four days a week. A schedule for each level will be provided. TCPS says this is the Red Model and it begins the first day of school.
In Phase Two, priority special population groups will be offerd face-to-face instructions for part of the week with virtual on the other days. This is also called the Orange Model and begins the second week of school as long as surveys show people will participate.
In Phase Three, pre-k and kindergarten students along with grade 6 and grade 9 students will be offered face-to-face learning two days a week. Virtual learning will take place on the other school days. This is also called the Hybrid Yellow Model and would begin the fifth week of school, October 5.
In Phase Four, the Hybrid Yellow Model continues with all student in pre-k through Grade 12 will be offered the in-person learning for two days with virtual learning on the other days of the school week. This begin in the ninth week of school, starting November 9 which is the beginning of the second quarter.
In Phase Five, all students will be back for in-person classes five days a week for the Green Model. This final phase will only happen when authorized by Governor Larry Hogan and the Maryland State Department of Education.
A final plan will again be presented to the BOE at their August 12 meeting.
