SALISBURY, Md.- Wicomico County reached a grim milestone on Friday. The health department reported 200 confirmed total deaths from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Mary Terry still uses a door knob grabber as she has since March and is not taking any chances.
“Wicomico County is not a large county so to have 200 deaths overall, oh that is tremendously sad to me and so what that tells me is I need to do more things for prevention, more things for alertness, more things for awareness,” Terry said.
In Wicomico County there are just under 10,000 total COVID-19 cases and more than 46% of adults are vaccinated. Sharice Johnson, who works in the healthcare industry, says to still exercise caution.
“Just wear your mask; even if you have the vaccine there's still a chance, you know, so still wear a mask. Just abide by certain rules in different places," Johnson said.
According to the health department, the positivity rate in Wicomico County is over 12%. The positivity rate for Maryland is under 5%.
“I don't feel that COVID has gone anywhere. I do feel that COVID is still here amongst us in our environment so that we need to be aware of that even when it's summer time, even when the numbers go down, or even being fully vaccinated," Terry said.
The Wicomico County Health Department has COVID testing on Tuesdays from 9 a.m.-noon on Thursdays from 1-3 p.m.
