SALISBURY, MD - The Salisbury Zoo is celebrating a platinum milestone with a 70th Anniversary Gala this year.
Zoo officials say a catered dinner, live and chance auctions, animal talks, and live music are all planned for Saturday, June 8th.
Festivities are slated to begin at 5 p.m. with a social hour and set to last until 9 p.m. The Zoo says the event will be held outdoors near the Zoo’s East Gate.
The Gala, hosted by the Salisbury Zoo and the Salisbury Zoo Commission, is a fundraiser for the Zoo’s future growth, according to officials. Funds collected from the Gala will be used for new exhibits and improvements.
“For the past 70 years, the Salisbury Zoo has served as a place where guests can enjoy nature and learn about wildlife and conservation,” said Zoo Director Chuck Eicholz. “We invite you to join us as we embark on a Zoovolution and celebrate with us at the first gala we’ve hosted in many years.”
The Salisbury Zoo began after unwanted wild animals were released into the Salisbury City Park and a zookeeper was hired in 1954, the same year WBOC went on the air.
