save station

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va.- The town of Chincoteague has installed 5 AED units, also known as Automated External Defibrillators throughout their parks. The equipment can save a person who is suffering from a heart attack. Mayor Arthur Leonard says this equipment is important anywhere, but especially on Chincoteague Island.

"Well unfortunately for the town of Chincoteague, we're an hour away form the closest hospital. And even though our emergency services are the best on the shore, if you can have something that will quicken that pace, you know if you have a machine like this that can save a life instantly, you know that will help," said Leonard. "We needed them. We are the town that has the most, we have five. They have proven themselves that they they are a big part of the equipment that we need to save lives."

Leonard says the units were installed a month ago.
