ANNAPOLIS, Md. - An Indiana man has been arrested after the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis was placed on lockdown last week following reports of threats.

"The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution," a spokesperson for the U.S. Naval Academy said on Sept. 11. "This is a developing situation, and we will provide updates as they become available."

At the time, Maryland Governor Wes Moore's Office said there was no credible threat to the Academy.

The Associated Press reported that local law enforcement was working with the academy to respond to the reported threats. Police were stationed near Bancroft Hall, considered to be the largest single college dormitory in the world, according to the U.S. Naval Academy's website. The hall houses midshipmen in over 1,600 dorm rooms.

On Tuesday, Sept. 16, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Indiana announced the arrest of Jackson Fleming, 23, of Chesterton, Indiana in connection to the alleged threats. Fleming was accused of transmitting a threat in interstate communication in a complaint approved by a magistrate judge on Sept. 14. The complaint is not a formal charge, but must be followed by an information or indictment, according to prosecutors. If formally charged, the U.S. Attorney's Office says Fleming could face up to five years imprisonment.
