The Delmarva Discovery Museum is now working toward a possible reopening after an outpouring of community support followed last week’s closure announcement, though local leaders and museum officials say the bigger challenge will be making sure the facility can remain sustainable long term.

The Delmarva Discovery Museum in downtown Pocomoke is set to close Friday, bringing a sad end to a longtime cultural and educational institution that local leaders, supporters and museum staff say has played a major role in the identity of the city and the southern end of Worcester County.

The Delmarva Discovery Museum has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser, saying rising operating expenses are putting new strain on the small nonprofit and its ability to provide daily care for its animals (including two river otters) and keep hands-on educational programs available.
