Public demand and the increasingly outspoken calls from the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse have driven Congress to mostly set aside party politics in an effort to search for accountability. That search has even led to interviews with some of the highest-ranked officials to ever appear before a congressional investigation, including a former president. Yet lawmakers have little to show in terms of criminal culpability for Epstein’s crimes or a definitive acknowledgment of government failure. Lawmakers and survivors of his abuse are still grasping for a sense of finality. Some lawmakers say there should still be criminal investigations.

Conor McGregor is returning the octagon. UFC CEO Dana White announced on Saturday McGregor will return for a rematch against Max Holloway in the UFC 329 main on July 11 in Las Vegas. The 37-year-old Irishman has not fought since breaking his leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021 and has faced a series of legal issues. An Irish jury found him liable in a civil sexual assault case from an incident in 2018, which was upheld by Ireland’s High Court in July. McGregor was scheduled to return for a fight against Michael Chandler in July 2024, but withdrew due to a toe injury. McGregor was the UFC’s first double champion in 2016 with a win over Eddie Alvarez, but has lost three of his past four matches. He also fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing match in 2017.

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger has signed legislation banning certain semi-automatic firearms. The new law is to take effect July 1. It prohibits the sale and manufacture of what it describes as "assault firearms." But gun-rights groups quickly sued seeking to block the new law. The measure is one of about two dozen laws restricting or regulating guns that have been signed this year by Virginia's Democratic governor. That marks a major shift from the previous Republican administration. Spanberger said Friday that the gun limits are intended to protect families. But gun-rights groups said they violate the constitutional right to bear arms.
