FORECAST DISCUSSION

Normal high: 66°F. Normal low: 44°F.

Showers and clouds have lingered around Delmarva a little longer than expected, but they'll make a quick exit by this evening.

As the front that brought showers for much of Tuesday departs, high pressure will build in from the west. This will set up a pressure gradient between the incoming high and outgoing front that will lead to windy conditions by Tuesday evening through Wednesday. Skies will clear quickly late Tuesday morning.

As the high pressure continues to build in, winds from the west will keep our temperatures on Wednesday on the cool side, only in the upper 50s, despite mostly sunny skies.

As the high settles in, we'll have mainly sunny weather for Thursday and Friday, and with winds gradually shifting to a southwesterly direction, temperatures will rise into the weekend; highs Thursday reach the low 60s, and on Friday the low 70s.

Then the question arises regarding our next chance for rain or thunderstorms. High pressure off the East Coast will divert most weather to our north, but longer range guidance is suggesting a backdoor cold front could sag over Delmarva late Saturday into early Sunday. With high temperatures on Saturday expected to approach 80°F, there will be enough energy to support some showers or thunderstorms Saturday night. However, at this point, confidence is low, and showers and storms could end up widely scattered.

In the long range, temperatures are expected to average above normal, and precipitation above normal for April 22 - April 28.
