FORECAST DISCUSSION
Normal high: 85°F. Normal low: 66°F.
Our Wednesday on Delmarva has been a pleasant day, with lots of sunshine and warm, summery temperatures, but that will change starting on Thursday.
First, though, we will enjoy a pleasantly quiet Wednesday night as high pressure slides to the east, with mainly clear skies, and overnight lows in the low 70s, which is on the warm side for this time of year (normal lows are in the mid 60s).
An upper trough will dig into the northeastern United States, which will sling several impulses of energy around its south side, making for several days of active weather on Delmarva.
We start off on Thursday, which will be partly cloudy in the morning, but by midday we're expecting showers and thunderstorms to develop, and those storms will continue into the evening. There will be favorable dynamics for severe weather, with all types of severe weather, including hail and tornadoes possible. All of Delmarva is under a Level 2 threat for severe weather Thursday afternoon and evening.
Friday is shaping up to have showers and thunderstorms yet again, although not quite as widespread as Thursday. Nevertheless, a few severe thunderstorms will be possible, with the timing mainly in the afternoon and evening.
Saturday could be a bit of a washout, with continued impulses of energy bringing rain and thunderstorms, with the timing looking like all day, including the morning.
The pattern will start to settle down on Sunday, with just a few afternoon and evening thunderstorms possible.
In addition to the threat for severe thunderstorms Thursday through Sunday, there will be a flooding threat as well. With plenty of moisture in the air, and good lifting dynamics, any thunderstorms could be efficient rain-makers, and could drop rain at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour or more.
Then high pressure builds back in for next Monday and Tuesday, which will be mostly sunny and seasonably warm.
In the long range, temperatures are expected to be near normal, and precipitation above normal for Aug 25 - Aug 31.
In the Tropics: There are no areas of development interest at this time.
The Atlantic hurricane season ends on November 30.
