GUMBORO, De. - The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office has determined that a Wednesday evening fire that heavily damaged a poultry building in Gumboro, Delaware was accidental.
Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly before 6:30 pm in the 36000 block of Jones Church Road. The Gumboro Volunteer Fire Company arrived on the scene to find the 500 foot by 40 foot poultry building on fire.
State fire investigators say the fire erupted at an electrical outlet at one end of the building due to an electrical malfunction. The fire then spread throughout the structure killing 21,000 chickens that were six weeks old.
Fire damage is estimated at $400,000. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.
