CAMBRIDGE, Md - The Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge will close off a large portion of the Wildlife Drive on Monday, December 1st and then again on Friday December 5th.  The reason behind the closure is the annual Quota Deer Shotgun Hunts.

The closed portion will include the Marsh Edge Trail and the Woods Trail.  There will be a smaller portion of Wildlife Drive (in the area of Pool 5) that will be open free of charge for visitors on those two days.

Visitors may enter from what is normally the first exit of the Wildlife Drive, one-quarter mile west of the Visitor Center, on Key Wallace Drive. The tire shredders normally operating at the first exit will be locked down to provide access to the Wildlife Drive. In addition, the Key Wallace hiking trail, located at the corner of Key Wallace Drive and Egypt Road, will be closed during the shotgun hunts.
