SALISBURY, MD - A Delmar man has won big with a $1 million scratch-off ticket purchased in Salisbury.
According to the Maryland Lottery, the man, who identified himself only as “19th Hole,” reportedly purchased the ticket at a Salisbury gas station after playing a round of golf at Nutters Crossing Golf Club.
The winning ticket was a $20 ticket “$1 Million Royale,” according to the Lottery.
After scanning his ticket at the Express Lane store to see $1 million on the screen, the Maryland Lottery says “19th Hole” was at first confused since the word “million” is part of the ticket name. He then confirmed the ticket’s winning prize on his phone.
“I’ve been more excited for a $1,000 win. This one was more of a shock,” the winner said May 1 at Lottery headquarters after claiming his prize
Just after confirming his prize, the Maryland Lottery says the man’s wife happened to call him while she was on break.
“He was stuttering pretty good,” the man’s wife told lottery officials.
The Maryland Lottery says “19th Hole” plans to invest his winnings. His wife reportedly has other plans - “retire early,” she reportedly said of her plans.
