DELAWARE- This Fourth of July marks the second one that people in the First State can buy certain fireworks legally.
Back in 2018, Delaware lawmakers lifted a lengthy ban that made fireworks illegal previously.
In the past, many people like Delaware's Kenneth Bonneville says he attempted to surpass those laws on the holidays.
"Most people, I've done it myself has bought fireworks out of state, brought them back, and then you're breaking the law. This right here makes it easy, you're not breaking any laws," he said.
According to Delaware legislation,
"This bill allows ground-based and hand-held sparklers and certain other nonexplosive, nonairborne novelty items regulated by the federal government to be sold and used in the State. The bill does not legalize firecrackers, bottle rockets, aerials, or any other device that explodes or shoots into the air. The use of those items that may be sold only to persons 18 years of age and older is limited to July 4th and December 31st of each year and sales are limited to the 30 days prior to the allowable use day."
People like Wanda Gray, who was shopping for fireworks on Sunday, said it may not be much for some, but she, and her young boys hope for bigger and better fireworks in the future.
"Anything that goes, 'boom,' they like," she said." They would love to see the bigger fireworks to be sold. The excitement they have, just getting this is just great," she said.
But the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office says this lift could open up the door for more safety concerns.
Gray agrees there does need to be some supervision while people participate in Fourth of July activities.
"I think there does need to be adult supervision, the children definitely do not need to be setting them off, but there needs to be some regulations," she said.
