RIDGELY, Md. -- Maryland State Police say one person is dead after a car collision on Route 404 Saturday evening.
According police, the accident happened at around 6:47 p.m. on Route 404 eastbound and Downes Station Road when a 2001 Honda Civic was traveling east and crossed over the center line and entered the westbound lane. Police said it then collided with a 2001 Toyota Highlander, which was traveling westbound on 404. Police said the driver and front seat passenger of the Toyota, Elizabeth Desourdis and Melinda Kennent, were transported by MSP Trooper 4 to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center; both women were from out of state. The other two passengers of the Toyota, Bethany Borey and Kathryn Horan both of Massachusetts, were also transported to PRMC by Talbot County EMS and DSP Trooper 2.
The driver of the Honda was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma via MSP Trooper 1; according to the MSPD Easton Barrack, police are still attempting to positively identify the driver. The passenger of the car was pronounced dead by the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's Office. The victim's identity is being withheld pending next of kin.
Traffic was shut down completely in both directions form 6:45 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Route 404. The accident remains under investigation; charges are also pending further consultation from the Caroline County State's Attorneys Office.
