DOVER, Del.- Jobs for Delaware Graduates celebrated 41 years of success Wednesday afternoon with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The ceremony was held at Caesar Rodney High School in Camden, where Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce members, ambassadors and staff members joined to celebrate the success of helping students obtain jobs.
JDG is a school-to-work transitional program designed to address Delaware's unemployment and drop out rates.
The program was founded in 1978 under the leadership of then-Gov. Pete du Pont and has since evolved into a Delaware Department of Education career pathway.
JDG has served more than 4,100 students in grades 6-12 each year and 75,000 since its founding. The program implements a curriculum based on 80 employability areas that include, career exploration, entrepreneurship, business etiquette and money management.
A JDG auxiliary group, "Students in Action", for the past three years have contributed more than 10,651 hours of service- a $540,379.85 value based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
CDCC described the ribbon event as "a celebration of gratitude for unwavering commitment from staff members, partners and community supporters to educate and prepare each generation of young professionals".
