CAMBRIDGE, Md.- The Liberty was used as a cargo ship during World War II and it now sits on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
The captain of the ship, Richard Bauman, says the Liberty weighs 6,000 tons and it was used to carry trucks and tanks across the world. The captain says it is important for everyone to see.
"Historically, it's very important, it has had an effect on so many peoples life," says Captain Bauman.
Onlookers gazed at the ship from the ground and some families even got on the ship.
Crew members describe the Liberty, as a museum that comes to you.
"It felt like I was one of the members of the crew, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity,"
Crew members say the ship is one of only 2 remaining and operating Liberty ships from World War II.
The liberty ship is docked near Governor's Hall at Sailwinds Park. The address is 200 Byrn Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
