DOVER, Del.– Over the holiday weekend, 882,655 motorists passed through Delaware’s three toll plaza locations on I-95 in Newark, Route 1 at Biddle’s Corner, and Route 1 in Dover, according to state transportation officials.
This number exceeds last year’s count with just 860,505 motorists that traveled through the state’s toll plazas from Thursday, July 4 to Sunday, July 7, the Delaware Department of Transportation said.
On Thursday, July 3 through Sunday, July 6, the I-95 Newark Plaza served 397,829 vehicles; Route 1 Biddle’s Corner served 258,094 vehicles; and Dover’s Route 1 Plaza served 226,732 vehicles. It is estimated that $2.4 million was collected in tolls during the four-day period at Delaware’s toll plazas.
Over 59 percent of the counted trips utilized the convenience of E-ZPass, the electronic toll collection system.
