Unsanctioned H2Oi Event Revs up in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md. - OCEAN CITY'S UNSANCTIONED POP-UP CAR RALLY COMES TO AN END WITH MANY ATTENDEES HEADED OUT OF TOWN.

COMMUNITY MEMBERS WE SPOKE WITH SAY THE POLICE PRESENCE ENSURED EVERYONE REMAINED SAFE THIS YEAR.

PEOPLE were eager to SHOW OFF THEIR LOUD ENGINES, fancy cars, and THEIR NEED FOR SPEED IS WHAT MANY CAR RALLY GOERS WERE LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS past WEEKEND.

HOWEVER , WITH POLICE PRESENT ENSURING EVERY OBEYED THE SPECIAL EVENT ZONE GUIdeLINES, SOME SAY THIS YEAR'S EVENT WAS NOT WHAT THEY HOPED FOR. "This weekend this year was not like all the other years. Cops were really on but it is what it is," says Giovanni Reyes. MANY PEOPLE LIKE, GAVIN KING, SAY THEY WEREN'T TOO THRILLED THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF THEIR CARS GETTING TOWED.  "We were in the event for five minutes, I got pulled over and then they made me get all my stuff out the car and then they towed it. It was like $1500 to get it out and $300 to tow it to the hotel," says King.  WHILE MANY WEREN'T SATISFIED BY THE WAY THE EVENT WENT THIS YEAR, PEOPLE LIKE PATTY SHREVES, ARE HAPPY TO BE BACK ON THE STREET. She SAYS SHE'S GLAD POLICE WERE PRESENT TO ENSURE EVERYBODY WAS CAREFUL  "Law enforcement did so much. It even had me scared as a normal person not to speed and not to do anything wrong. So the message was definitely clear and since we've been here, we heard a couple rev's of engines. However, nothing outrageous like it was in the past," says Shreves. COMMUNITY MEMBERS SAY THEY HOPE POLICE PRESENCE WILL ENSURE EVERYONE'S SAFETY AT THE UNSANCTIONED EVENT FOR YEARS TO COME. THE OCEAN CITY POLICE CHIEF RELEASED A STATEMENT Sunday ON SOCIAL MEDIA SAYING HE'S PROUD OF THE DEDICATION THE POLICE OFFICERS HAD TO PROTECT AND SERVE THE COMMUNITY THROUGHOUT THIS WEEKEND.
