LEWES, Del. - A major development might be on its way just east of Lewes. The Showfield subdivision, which would be located on Gills Neck Road, just east of town received unanimous approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The developer, Jack Lingo Asset Management, plans to subdivide a 132 acre plot of land into 166 individual lots, primarily for single family homes.
Many neighbors have voiced concerns with the over-development of the Gills Neck Road area, but Planning and Zoning said the plan followed the code completely.
"Our responsibility is to compare the application to the ordinance," said Bob Wheatley, the Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission. "And the application did fit all the qualifications of the county ordinance. And so we really have no other choice but to approve it under those conditions. And that's what we did."
The developer must submit a final site plan for the Commission before moving forward with the project.
